World Junior Curling Champions
Skip Steve Laycock and his team of lead Kyler Broad, second Mike Jantzen, third Chris Haichert and coach Barry Fiendell from the Sutherland Curling Club posted a 35-3 record in junior men's playoffs in 2003. The exclamation point was a 5-4 win over Sweden to win the world championship in Switzerland.
Trailing by two points in the world final, Laycock's rink scored one in the seventh end, then stole singles in the eighth and ninth. Laycock hit and stuck in an extra end for the title.
Laycock also made a money shot in the Canadian final in Ottawa, drawing for two in the seventh end on the way to a win against Alberta.
Laycock's rink was the third team from Saskatchewan in 32 years to win the Canadian junior men's championship.
