Ches Anderson came to Saskatchewan as a wrestling coach and spread his influence as a coach, official and administrator. Ches was born in Danville, Virginia on Aug. 8, 1928.

With his interest in a variety of sports, he pursued a physical education at Maryville College and the University of Tennessee.

Ches came to the University of Saskatchewan as an instructor in physical education and coach in wrestling and volleyball in 1958. He was the first Saskatchewan coach to take a team to the Canadian University wrestling championships. His teams captured Canada West championships five times between 1959 and 1969. He also coached Saskatchewan's team at the first Canada Winter Games in Quebec City in 1967.

Ches was the first chairman of the Saskatchewan Amateur Wrestling Association and first chairman of the amateur wrestling officials association. He was secretary-treasurer and vice-president of the Canadian amateur wrestling officials association and was an official at the world championships at Toledo, Ohio in 1968.

Ches organized the first high school tournaments in Saskatoon, worked as a referee with Howard Nixon at most of them, and was a driving force behind the high school wrestling program in Saskatchewan. He has also written rulebooks for both Saskatchewan and Canada.

Ches has been an avid outdoorsman and played an active role in the Saskatchewan Outdoor Education Association. He has also spread his talents to win a Saskatchewan handball championship, coach University tennis and volleyball teams and serve on a gymnastic coaching development committee.
