A Canadian woman had never pole vaulted higher than Kelsie Hendry did in June of 2008.
Hendry competed in pole vaulting for 13 years. She was the Canada West conference champion with the University of Saskatchewan five times. She was the Canadian university champion three times. She added three more titles at the Canadian senior outdoor championships.
She went to the Universiade in Korea and again in Thailand. She won the Francophone Games in Africa and she competed in two Commonwealth Games, winning the bronze medal in 2010. She also competed in the World Championships four times. Just to qualify for the Olympics Hendry had to break the Canadian record and she did that by jumping 4.55m. She set the Canadian Senior Indoor Record in 2012 of 4.60m.
Prior to pole vaulting, Hendry was a gymnast for 10 years. She competed at various national championships and Canada Games. Crunch this number: She was a two-time academic All-Canadian.
