Elan BallantyneElan Ballantyne’s footwear closet needs the room of a double-wide.

She has hockey skates. The story goes that when she was 7, she was the first girl in Saskatoon to play on a boys’ hockey team. When the family moved the following year to a new zone, that zone wouldn’t allow her to play. Fortunately, the new sport of Ringette was just starting up and Ballantyne joined the Saskatoon Roadrunners. For 5 years, the Roadrunners won 5 City Championships, won a Bronze medal at the Saskatchewan Winter games in Prince Albert in 1982, won the Junior Provincial title and finished 6th at the National Championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Ballantyne was a City All Star and a Provincial All Star.

She has bowling shoes for the Youth Bowling Council. Ballantyne was an alternate on the Provincial team in 1983.

She has cycling shoes for competing in cycling at the Saskatchewan Games in Melfort in 1988, Competing in timetrial, citerium and road race. Ballantyne was 5th overall.

She has basketball sneakers. Ballantyne was a point guard on the senior team at City Park and Marion Graham in all four years of high school. She was on the Winnipeg Wesmen team that twice played for the Canadian University National championships, losing by two points to Laurentian in a semifinal in her second year.

After not making the Canadian Junior National team in 1985, Ballantyne did play on the team in 1986 and competed in an International friendly in Victoria against the USA team.

Ballantyne was athlete of the year in 1985 for volleyball, basketball, badminton and track and field.

She has golf spikes. Switching from being a lefty to a righty when she was 9, she went on to win the junior club title at Riverside Golf and Country Club five times City title four times and competed in Provincial championships. She played one event on the Futures and LPGA pro Tours. She has been a certified golf instructor with the PGA, LPGA and USGTF for more than 30 years.

She has football cleats. Ballantyne was a wide receiver with the Saskatoon Valkyries of the WWCFL in her mid-40s. That year, 2013, they won the league championship.

She’s got track spikes and running shoes. Ballantyne competed in multiple City Championships in track and field in high jump and long jump. She’s done marathons, half marathons and triathlons.

Ballantyne’s feet are fit to be tied.
