The University of Saskatchewan men's volleyball team was second in the league during the 1998-99 regular season with a 14-4 record. The Huskies were defeated by the Calgary Dinos in the conference semi-final at home. However, they were awarded a wild-card spot at nationals.

At the national championship tournament in Laval, Que., they beat the defending champion Winnipeg Wesmen in the quarter-finals, defeated top-ranked Alberta Golden Bears in five sets in the semi-final, then capped the dream weekend with a 3-0 win (15-13, 15-10, 15-3) over the Laval Rouge et Or.
