Canada Day was fireworks for Erin Cumpstone.
She was the catcher on Canada's softball team that won two playoff games on July 1 in 2010 at the world softball championship in Venezuela. Canada won a bronze, the first medal the national team has ever won at worlds.
Cumpstone began playing softball when she was six, progressing from minor ball up to the top division in the Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association.
She went the scholarship route in college, going to Simon Fraser in B.C. where she was an All-American and won the national collegiate title.
Erin joined the national softball team in 2001, competing in the world championship four times and in the Olympics twice. Erin was on Canada's team in the world ringette championship, finishing second in 2010 in Finland.
